NOTES
i’ve been reading some angst today, so this one is pretty heavy. stay safe! <3
i promise i’ll write something happy soon, to make it up!
It's not worth it anymore, is it?
They're tired. They're tired of pretending. They're tired of convincing…
no one, actually. They have nobody to pretend to be fine to but themself.
Their mixes are never quite right. Too much bass, too little bass, not noisy enough, too overstimulating...
They used to love it. Their cousin always told them it was worth it, as long as it made them happy. It doesn't anymore.
They feel guilty for a moment at the prospect that they'd be disappointing their cousin.
It doesn't matter. Their cousin is gone, anyway.
Maybe he finally found a nice body—despite insisting that he'd never find something right for him—and died in some tragic accident. That'd explain the silence.
Or maybe he just doesn't want to talk to them ever again. That'd also explain it.
For an incorporeal being, they sure do feel an unreasonable amount of pain.
…
They could find something. Some discarded dummy or something similar—that seems to be what they deserve, after all. It wouldn't matter for long, after all. A body they can fuse with. A body that can get hurt. A body that can…
They wipe away their tears, and look up at the ceiling like there's going to be anything interesting up there.
Without noticing, they slowly tip over backwards until they're lying on the ground.
like garbage…
…
They could find something in the garbage dump. Their other cousin said something about that, once. They could find something in the garbage dump, and…
Why are they still thinking about this? It's not like they'd ever go through with something like that.
They'll just wallow in their misery forever and ever, until… they don't know how it'll end.
…
"Blooky? Are you okay?"
"huh"
"You're kind of spacing out, darling."
"oh… i guess i was"
They look up at him, but don't bother to get up from the ground.
"C'mon. C'mon, c'mon!! There's so much to do!"
"Don't pressure them, dear…"
Their cousins loom over them and they feel like they're about to go under for surgery.
"Fine, fine, fine. Look,"—the one on the left looks down at them—"you don't have to feel up to doing anything, but you should not be wallowing! I will not allow it! Never, never, never!"
They respond only with a long, melancholic sigh. That does nothing to deter their three cousins, though.
"okay… i guess… i'll go out with you guys, if you really want me to…"
"Of course we do, darling! It wouldn't be a family trip without you!"
They smile tentatively, floating up from the floor. The three others start to make their way toward the door, but Hapsta stays back for a moment. Napstablook remembers something.
"oh…. wait….."
"Yes?"
"i wanted to show you the mixtape i'm working on, if you want to listen… it won't take too long…."
"Of course, Blooky."
